This is unusual: A one-day sale on Qantas from the USA to Australia that ends at midnight PT. Travel Aug 4-31, 2007.

For example, LA or San Francisco fares supposedly start at $898 RT plus tax. Stopovers are an additional $150. But we'll be blasted if we could find fares at the advertised fares using Qantas' flexible date search functionality. Maybe you'll have better luck, we just gave up.

We actually had an easier time finding a bargain LA to Sydney using Orbitz.com.

For example, leaving on August 14 and returning Aug 22, we found an LA to Sydney nonstop fare of $1036 RT on Orbitz. But when we went back to Qantas.com and plugged these specific dates in, we did indeed find this itinerary for $1027 RT (Orbitz.com apparently charges $11 as a booking fee on this fare).

Orbitz states that today is the last day to buy this fare. Incidentally, United was charging $20 more, and Air New Zealand, which also flies the route, was asking $1860 for the same travel days, so this is a good fare.
