Cross-Country Flights from $49 One-Way or $96+ Roundtrip on Major Airlines

We're seeing some amazing airfares for nonstop travel from coast-to-coast. Fly on legacy and traditional carriers like American, Delta, United, Alaska, JetBlue, and Southwest for as little as $49 one-way or $96 roundtrip for a cross-country flight. True "coast-to-coast" deals are available from $99 one-way or $197 roundtrip.

We're seeing over 150 cross-country routes for under $250 roundtrip on traditional airlines. And that's just what we've had a chance to check so far. There are plenty of deals available to check out the other side of the U.S.

Travel Availability

Travel Period: Varies by route. The best deals are available for fall and/or winter travel, and a few have availability in the spring.
Travel Days of the Week: Varies by route. Some major coast-to-coast markets are available for daily travel in winter months.
Blackout Dates: Peak holiday travel.

Most of the roundtrip fares listed below can be booked one-way for half the roundtrip price so you can mix and match airlines as you please. A few of the routes where there isn't any direct nonstop competition from Alaska, JetBlue, or Southwest may require a roundtrip purchase to get the lowest fares.

Baggage

Flights on all carriers except United include a carry-on bag plus a small personal item. United's Basic Economy fare only includes a small personal item and anything larger must be checked. The first checked bag is $30 each way on all airlines except Southwest. Southwest includes two free checked bags.

Seat Assignments

JetBlue includes standard advanced seat assignments. Alaska Airlines includes limited seat selection at the back of the plane. Southwest has an open seating policy where you choose your seat as you board the aircraft. On American, Delta, and United, seats will be assigned at random upon check-in for these Basic Economy prices. You may be able to pay a fee to choose a specific seat.

Alternate Fares

Fares on Alaska, American, Delta, and United can be upgraded to a standard Main Cabin Economy fare for around $70 extra roundtrip on most routes and dates. This is not a set upgrade fee and certain markets and/or travel dates may be less or much more to upgrade. This type of fare includes advanced seat selection and allows ticket changes/upgrades for a fee. On United, this type of fare will allow a full-size carry-on bag whereas a Basic Economy fare does not on United. All other carriers include a normal carry-on bag for both basic or regular economy. The first checked bag fee is the same $30 each way for both basic and regular economy.

Some routes may have similar or slightly lower fares on Frontier or Spirit, but you'll likely have a better experience flying on one of the major airlines.

Example Booking

As an example, I found a flight departing New York JFK on Friday, January 10, returning from Los Angeles LAX on Tuesday, January 14, for $197 roundtrip.
