Starting today and just in time for the big game, if you find yourself in economy one of United Airline's 200+ Boeing 737s equipped with a seat back entertainment screen, you can keep that credit card in your wallet as the carrier will now offer free DIRECTV on those flights.
Previously, United charged $5.99 on flights 2-hours or less and $7.99 on flights lasting 2+ hours to access the live TV option.
While this move is an overall positive for flyers traveling on United to keep entertained, keep in mind this is a feature that has been offered complimentary on JetBlue flights since people were worried about Y2K. But, better late than never I guess.
American, Delta, and Southwest all also provide some form of free TV or streaming option on many of their aircraft.
Alongside the free live DIRECTV channels, United will also add streamable newly released movies and TV shows to their IFE lineup.
