In the past few weeks, low-cost carrier Primera Air has announced new flights to Brussels (BRU), Berlin (TXL), and Frankfurt (FRA), which are set to begin next summer. Earlier this week, Primera announced yet another new transatlantic route. Nonstop flights from three North American cities to Madrid (MAD) will begin in the summer of 2019. Intro fares start at $334 roundtrip for fall 2019 travel.

Primera Adds Nonstop Service to Madrid for Summer of 2019

Starting in July 2019, Primera Air will fly daily nonstop flights from Newark (EWR) to Madrid (MAD). Following in August 2019, nonstop flights from Boston (BOS) will be flown on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and from Toronto (YYZ) on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Fares for these routes are on sale now starting at $149 one-way departing Newark and Boston, with flights from Toronto beginning at $199 CAD one-way. While these flights start service in July or August 2019, you'll only find these intro prices available for travel in September and early October 2019.

There is no advertised expiration date and these fares may go up in price at any time.

Boston to Madrid $334 roundtrip

Toronto to Madrid $441 CAD roundtrip ($335 USD)

The prices listed above include Primera Air’s $12 fee ($15 CAD) for booking with a credit card. To avoid this fee you can also do a bank transfer, but your bank is likely to charge a higher fee for doing this.

These fares also book into Primera’s “Light” category, which only includes a small personal item that can fit underneath the seat in front of you. Carry-on bag fees start at $12 ($15 CAD) each way with a max combined weight of 10 kg (including personal item). First checked bag up to 23kg starts at $45 ($50 CAD) each way when booked online. Meals and seat selection are also extra. For more info on Primera’s fees, a list can be found here.

Primera Air offers more fare types if you would like to bundle your options. If you want an experience closer to the legacy airlines, the "Comfort" fare is recommended, which includes a carry-on bag plus personal item, one checked bag, and priority seating. Meals are still not included in a "Comfort" fare, but I think you can do better eating before your flight. Comfort fares on these routes are currently around $154 more roundtrip.
